At the new Six Senses Maxwell, all guests get free ice cream sandwiches

The unveiling of the Six Senses Duxton earlier this year marked the luxury resort brand’s first ever city hotel and property in Singapore. But it was actually the first of a two-part opening of sorts. Come Dec 1, with the opening of sister hotel Six Senses Maxwell, the guest experience will finally be complete.

Located just a stone’s throw away from each other, facilities (including the gym and pool) at both establishments are actually shared, and you’d definitely want to check them out. At the currently up-and-running Duxton one, there’s Chinese restaurant and cocktail bar Yellow Pot, as well as traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) consultation services provided complimentary for guests.

At the new Maxwell outpost, you can expect even more unique offerings. Right off the bat, all staying guests get to enjoy free ice cream sandwiches—the traditional kind with a large slab of ice cream wrapped in a slice of rainbow bread—served to you by none other than an uncle on a tricycle. But this ain’t your run-of-the-mill Walls ice cream kiosk. The refrigerator is solar-powered and the ice creams—with flavours ranging from chocolate to mango and sweet corn to durian—are all made using only organic and sustainably sourced ingredients.

Keeping to that Six Senses sustainability mantra, the hotel’s new restaurant and bar, Cook & Tras, also functions as a library, housing volumes of literature on subject matters such as wellness, nutrition, climate change and natural history. The food and drink meanwhile will be influenced by heritage Straits cuisine, for even more local touches.

The rooms themselves, all 138 of them, will be housed within the 19th century heritage building located just opposite Maxwell Food Centre. While the Duxton property was designed by Anouska Hempel, the Maxwell one will be fashioned by Jacques Garcia, featuring burnished timber finishes lightened up with elegant paintwork.

Six Senses Maxwell, located on 2 Cook Street, opens Dec 1.
