There’s a new beer coming to town and here’s why you’ll like it

Singapore is the first Southeast Asian market outside of Thailand that will be able to enjoy a brand new lager by the same guys behind Singha and Leo Beer, Boonrawd Brewery, the original Thai brewery since 1933.

The beer in question is the design-focused U Beer, a 5% abv beverage that is brewed with today’s modern, discerning drinkers in mind. To make it even more exciting, a limited edition U Beer can designed by famed Thai artist Rukkit is also making its way permanently to our shores, after a resoundingly successful first showing at Beerfest Asia 2017. Here are some interesting things to know about U Beer, the brew made with you in mind.

The collaboration with famed Thai muralist Rukkit

The special edition U Beer can design, that was first made available to consumers at Beerfest Asia just last month, is actually the work of renowned Bangkok-based street artist Rukkit, best known for his crosshatched, vivid murals found popping up on walls, buildings and electrical boxes around the city.

In line with his approach to art, U Beer is all about the individual appreciating the beverage. It’s a new-age beer brewed for the current generation of perceptive creatives who are not looking for a functional beverage, but rather, something that’s aligned with their unique lifestyle. That’s why U Beer was first conceptualised with direct feedback from real consumers, so that the end product is something truly produced for them.

More than just a can, it’s an art form

“As I work on the packaging designs, I visualize them as an art piece. If it communicates, tells a story or provokes a certain feeling when you see it, whether you like it or not, that’s an achievement for me,” said Rukkit regarding the design of the can.

“My idea is based on the brand’s colour—yellow and black, then I tried to find figures with those colour palettes for the designing process. A tiger is what we agreed that fits our identity the most because of its yellow-black color and its big and strong structure.”

He added that it doesn’t end with just one can design either; look forward to more designs by Rukkit for U Beer and see if you can collect them all.

Singapore gets it first in Southeast Asia

Outside of its home market of Thailand, Boonrawd Brewery is bringing U Beer to the lips of Singaporeans first within the region. It was actually made available for a period at this year’s recently concluded Beerfest Asia, as previously mentioned, but it is set to be available to all consumers soon too.

Beerfest Asia goers loved it

Those who managed to have a taste of U Beer before anyone else at the biggest annual gathering of beer enthusiasts in Singapore have said they enjoyed the smooth, easy-to-drink lager that doesn’t leave you with a hangover the next day—which is great, because the beer was brewed with active creatives in mind. The crowd especially loved the limited edition U Beer can design by Rukkit. Who says you can’t enjoy a good beer while flaunting a beautifully-designed can as well?

New meets tradition

It may be a new beer with a hip packaging, but the crisp lager is a brew made by the same experts at Boonrawd Brewery (again, the same people who made Singha and Leo Beer) with 84 years of beer brewing experience under their belt. The same dedication and attention given to the design and concept of the beer is also given to the making of the light, golden beverage.
