Ok, they’re not losing their lease, and they’re not collapsing into a heap of rubble, so it’s not quite as dire as the recent SOSes we’ve heard from arts venues in the city. But we love The Substation, and we’re particularly stoked about Septfest, so we thought we’d share this call for help.
The Substation’s interiors are in need of some serious restoration. According to estimates, they need a whopping $30,000 to renovate the building’s walls and floors. The crowd-funding drives hopes to raise at least $4,500 for repairs, and there are plenty of cool incentives in place to encourage your contributions. For every donation you make between $10-$50, you’ll get such as vinyl stickers exclusively designed by Singapore artist SKLO or a SeptFest 2014 tote bag by illustrator MessyMsxi. For those with deeper pockets, a contribution of around $400-$500 will get you a dinner with prominent arts folks like Janice Koh.
In addition to Septfest, The Substation will be holding a fundraising exhibition, with works donated by local artists like Robert Zhao and Vertical Submarine among them. The exhibition will be taking place in two phases in September, after which there will be a silent auction.
