Recently, Forbes Asia announced its 30 under 30 list, ranging from people who work in the media, to savvy entrepreneurs and more. More than 20 Singaporeans were part of the list, including fashion forward Rachel Lim of Love, Bonito and everyone’s favorite startup geeks, the co-founders of Carousell. Here are some of the highlights from the list.
1. Lai Chang Wen, Ninja Van
If you’ve ordered stuff online from Zalora or Lazada, you’ve probably used Ninja Van to get your goods. The CEO is Lai Chang Wen, who was also the CEO and founder of custom retailer, Marcella. After that venture, he found a way to make delivery a little more efficient, and thus, after some creative naming with his CTO, Shaun Chong, Ninja Van was born. Fast forward to today, and you have a successful company that handles 10,000 deliveries a day.
2. Clara Yee, Singapore Inside Out
She was an intern at Alexander McQueen—now, she’s an art director at Singapore: Inside Out, a traveling showcase thet shines the spotlight on talented work by designers, writers, artists and more.
3. Lucas Ngoo and Siu Rui Quek, Carousell
If you’ve ever made some money out of the app Carousell, you have these two guys to thank. Plus, Carousell was the winner of our best local start-up last year, and in late 2014 got a major injection of funds to go regional. Not sure why why fellow founder Marcus Tan didn’t make the list, but congrats to him, too.
4. Pocket Sun, SoGal
Pocket Sun and her partner Elizabeth Galbut founded the world’s first female-led venture capital firm, with chapters in eight countries including Singapore and the US.
5. Rachel Lim, Love Bonito
Fashion forward and business savvy, Rachel Lim and Velda Tan started Love Bonito at 18 in 2006. While Tan has left, Lim has seen the online shop grow from strength to strength, and it’s easily one of the stores women go to to grab their #ootds. Of course, you know this already if you follow her on Instagram.
6. Ryan Tan and Sylvia Chan, Night Owl Cinematics
You may have watched this CNY video during the long weekend and related to the humorous skits in it. Husband and wife duo Tan and Chan started their wildly successful YouTube channel in 2013 and here they are, with 66k followers on FB.
7. Chan Yi Wen, Bolt
Before founding Bolt, Chan was a journalist at The Business Times. Watching closely as print media made its shift online, she founded a platform that puts businesses in touch with content producers who can better tell their story.
