The nearby Cempedak Island is Singapore’s hot new travel escape

For those living in Singapore, Nikoi Island may be the perfect short getaway destination that doesn’t require a flight (no, Sentosa doesn’t count). But the same people behind Nikoi have now built a second private island resort, also located just off the coast of Bintan, called Cempedak Island, that is in many ways even cooler than its sister development.

It’s not even on most people’s radars yet even though it opened in March this year, but we suspect bookings can easily reach Nikoi’s near maximum occupancy. A quick check on Cempedak’s online reservation tool shows a few openings left on most weekends till August, so get clicking.

What makes Cempedak different or more appealing than Nikoi you ask? First of all, while Nikoi is more suited for families, Cempedak is an adults-only resort. The form factor, activities and dining offerings are geared towards this distinction as well. But similar to Nikoi is the establishment’s adherence to barefoot luxury—meaning no air-conditioning and room keys. Rather, each villa is its own alcove that invites you to enjoy nature, the beach and the sea breeze in private comfort.

And in case you’re still wondering, no, Cempedak Island is not proselytizing the jackfruit-like fruit in any way.

Cempedak Island is located two and half hours away from Singapore’s Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal. Head over to their website to find exact directions.
