Don’t be alarmed if you stumble upon an eight-meter long lifeboat sitting pretty in a backyard in Joo Chiat. It’s all part of Oh! Open House’s art walkabout that will be kicking off this weekend, Mar 14-15.
After a two-year absence, this ingenious, ambitious art-in-the-heartlands project is back. Oh! Open House places artists and their works in unusual places and this year’s edition involves 12 local artists installing art in actual houses in Joo Chiat. Happening across three weekends, these art walks also take you through Joo Chiat’s rich heritage. Other artworks to look forward to are video installations, floors paved with roses and a giant double-framed bicycle.
Oh! Joo Chiat will cover seven different spaces including quaint Perenakan shophouses, designer houses, a secret garden, an artists’ studio and a hotel. The first art walkabout starts tomorrow and tickets cost $25. More details here.
