Timbre opens new music venue as they celebrate their birthday

In 2005, Timbre first opened at The Substation and permanently altered the city’s live music scene. Now they’re looking to shake things up again with the opening of their brand new venue to coincide with their ninth birthday celebrations.

House of Timbre is actually an expansion of the existing Timbre @ The Arts House, and will now also incorporate music venue the Barber Shop, French restaurant Olivia Cassivelaun Fancourt (OCF) and a fully equipped studio at the Timbre Music Rehearsal space.

Three years in the making, the ambition of the riverside venue is to offer further options for local artists to perform live. Each space will have a different musical focus and offer different events throughout the week. The Barber Shop will cover Latin and Salsa on Thursdays, soul and swing on Fridays and feature blues on Saturdays. Timbre @ The Arts House will continue to feature resident local bands such as Goodfellas, Common People and Sweatshop Jam, while OCF focuses on jazz with resident singer and pianist Michaela Therese performing on Friday nights.

As with sister branch at The Substation they also hope to put on a range of other activities from regular dance and music workshops in the new studio space to one-off collaborations and special events that have made Timbre such pioneers in the local scene.

You won’t go hungry either, as there’ll be a choice of dining options from soul food at the Barber Shop through to semi-fine French dining at OCF under the stewardship of chef Jonathan Koh. Craft beer fans may also be interested to know this will be the only place you can sample specially brewed Timbre-edition craft beer by the Archipelago Brewing Company.
