Oh, the end of another year. It’s safe to say that 2017 was pretty s*** all around the world—but at least here in Singapore we had nasi lemak burgers and Liho Gongcha to look forward to. It’s the little things that count people; we counted 18.
1. A nasi lemak burger came, caused a storm, left, and returned again
2. The government revealed they don’t trust their citizens to make the right choice
3. Everyone went nuts for a Japanese penguin
4. Prime Now landed in Singapore, then confusingly gave way to Amazon Prime
5. Three siblings aired some very private laundry in public
And inadvertently turned a children’s book into a sold-out bestseller
6. SMRT went full Mission Impossible on us
7. The pinnacle of high fashion retail opened a store on Dempsey Hill
8. PS.Cafe continued its world domination
9. Homophobes tried to ruin things (again)
10. The world’s most expensive coffee arrived at $85 a cup
11. Changi Airport’s Terminal 4 opened, featuring high tech gantries and lots of local touches
12. Electric car and e-scooter sharing became reality
13. Michelin Guide paid less attention to our beloved hawkers this year
14. Singapore finally got its first Apple Store (with lotsa love)
15. We had our 10th Singapore F1 and thought it was gonna be our last
16. Announcing you’re closing and then coming back became the top business marketing strategy
17. Angry Chinese people tried to invalidate some pretty blatant racism
18. We officially have the most powerful passport in the world
At least there’s that!
