Flying to the City of Angels has never been easier (or more agonizing). United Airlines has officially started its nonstop Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner service, which will take passengers directly from Singapore to Los Angeles International (LAX). The move makes the American airline the only airline operating a direct flight between Singapore and Los Angeles. With an average flight time of 15 hours eastbound (to) and 18 hours westbound (back), it’s also the longest scheduled nonstop flight to or from the US.
The first flight in the new route took off yesterday (Oct 29) after much fanfare at Changi Airport. Previously, United offered direct flights between Singapore and San Francisco. The new UA 38 flight to Los Angeles will depart Singapore at 11am daily, while the return UA 37 will depart Los Angeles at 9:25am. Should you wish to catch a connecting flight from LAX to other states within the US, the UA 38 flights have been timed to arrive for optimal connections to more than 20 cities.
Onboard, United Economy offers complimentary food, beverages (alcohol included) and inflight entertainment—which will certainly come in handy when you’re stuck in the air for 18 hours. Prospects look bright for now; let’s just hope nobody else gets dragged off.
