Those living near Block 234 Bukit Panjang Ring Road might not have to wait for their phones to be fully charged before working out. The block’s fancy outdoor fitness corner, features a $8,000 equipment set comprising a cross trainer, hand bike, spinning bike and recumbent bike, all of which come with USB ports.
According to a report by The Straits Times, the equipment installed by Playground consultancy firm Playpoint uses a self-powering function which draws generated energy from users (for example, you’ll have to cycle for two minutes to charge your phone by one percent) to power up electronic devices. And it’s not just for Bukit Panjang residents—these fitness corners might just be installed in other heartlands like Punggol and Sengkang.
It might not sound as efficient as actually bringing your own portable powerbank, but at least it gives you one more reason to Netflix while burning calories.
