You can now pay for your favorite bike-sharing service through Grab

We’ve still not solved the problem of bikes being left at places they shouldn’t be, but bike-sharing services continue to expand their business and tying up new partnerships; the latest being oBike’s integration of GrabPay. But with Grab being Grab, they’ve just released GrabCycle Beta to make finding a bike or e-scooter even easier.

This new pilot project is headed by GrabVentures, the company’s new innovation arm that regularly tests new mobility and payment concepts. They’ve partnered up with Sentosa as their first venue to have dedicated GrabCycle bike parking stations, as well as YCH, a supply chain solutions company, to manage parking and rebalancing of vehicles at Sentosa and future venue partners’ locations.

On the app itself—slated to launch within the first half of this year—you’ll be able to find a bike or e-scooter from their partners, which include oBike, Gbikes, Anywheel and Popscoot, seamlessly. As expected, GrabPay and GrabRewards will also be integrated into the app, making it convenient to pay and earn points when you rent one of their vehicles. Singapore’s the first (and for now, the only) in Southeast Asia where the app will be made available, with plans to launch regionally in the pipeline.

It’s a step in the right direction to make our green city a little greener and more liveable by supplementing our public transport network. And knowing Grab, we’re still hopeful for a couple of services we’d like Grab to introduce.
