Can you have your cake and eat it? With Happy Low Carb Time (@happylowcarbtime)’s bakes, it seems the answer is yes. 

The home-based bakery was established by Lucy Asnum after her family embraced the ketogenic lifestyle, including a diet that is low in carb, moderate in protein and high in fat. Motivated by her children’s dietary restrictions, she ventured into the world of baking to create low-sugar desserts for them.

The mission was to craft a variety of desserts that cater to the keto lifestyle, and offer guilt-free enjoyment at the same time. 

Signatures from Happy Low Carb Time include Lychee Rose Cake ($9 per slice) featuring keto-friendly lychee chiffon studded with juicy lychees, and pillowy fresh cream infused with fragrances of lychee and rose; and the Ondeh Ondeh Cake ($9 per slice), enveloped with mascarpone cream, gula melaka and fresh grated coconut.

Newly launched are the Pandan Orh Nee Cake ($9 per slice) that combines pandan chiffon and fresh mascarpone whipped with yam paste; Matcha Chocolate Cake ($9 per slice); Salted Caramel Chocolate Cake ($9.50 per slice); and Lychee Jelly Basque Burnt Cheesecake ($9 per slice). The best part about the cakes? They are not cloyingly sweet.

There are also savoury bakes such as Cheesy Curry Chicken Pizza ($5 per slice), Vege Pizza ($4 per slice), Garlic Butter Cream Cheese Bun ($7) and Keto Chicken Floss Bun ($6).

Try the bakes for yourself at Baker X from now till Feb 28. Happy Low Carb Time is the latest in a string of home-based bakers to take up residency at the 20-seater cafe and fully-fitted baking studio at Orchard Central. The space, launched by Far East Organization, provides them with an opportunity to experience running a brick-and-mortar storefront and interacting with customers. Previous bakers include Cherbax Tartyy and Arc-en-ciel
