If you’ve ever been curious about what Gillman Barracks was like before becoming the hip arts enclave, you now have a chance to find out thanks to their new history and heritage tour.
Led by the docents from Friends of the Museums, the hour-long tour will dish interesting nuggets of information like where the elusive swimming pool (a supposedly popular spot where the soldiers and nurses would gather back in the day) once stood and how there used to be a movie theater at Blk 7. Plus, you’ll also get to learn more about Singapore’s military history.
While it is a free tour, you still have to sign up in advance as slots are limited. The tours are set to be a monthly affair and even though the next one’s scheduled for this weekend (May 9-10), the spots have already all been snapped up. Don’t worry, you can still sign up for the next one that’s happening on Jun 6. But if you’re more of an art buff, there’s still their weekly art and history tour. Head here for more info.
