The embassies of Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Mexico, Panama, Peru and Venezuela have joined forces—to bring to our screens the fifth edition of the Keppel Latin American Film Festival.
The festival takes place across Dec 7-10, screening 10 films of various genres at the National Gallery Singapore. The films have been specially selected to show different sides of Latin American culture. Contigo Pan y Cebolla (Cuba) is a comedy centered on a Cuban family’s purchase of a fridge in the 50s; The Strength of the Ball (Panama) documents the struggle, amid local gang problems, to make it to the national soccer team; and Good Day, Ramon (Mexico) is bound to be a hit, with its heart-warming tale of a young man’s journey immigrating to Germany and finding a place he can call home.
Interestingly enough, there’s even a film… of Singapore. Rosado Furia (Costa Rica) was directed by Nicolas Pacheco from San Jose, but otherwise is shot entirely in English, in Singapore, with an all-Singaporean cast. Confused? Admission is completely free, with complimentary tickets distributed 30 minutes before each film session. We’ve said it once and we’ll say it again: It’s a good time to be a film lover in Singapore.
