You can soon return to the good ol’ days of flagging down a ride with GrabNow

In conjunction with the company’s fifth anniversary celebrations today, ride-hailing app Grab will be introducing a new function called GrabNow that “digitises the street hailing experience”. It is not yet known when the function will be made available in Singapore, but they have made known intentions to first launch it in Jakarta with GrabBike.

Apparently, with GrabNow, you can immediately flag a ride on the street (wow, nostalgic) and immediately book a ride as per normal using the app with the same driver. This allows you to pay the fella using GrabPay and earn GrabRewards points as you normally would, after you have made your GrabNow booking.

Besides the new function, Grab is also planning on expanding its GrabChat function. We’re not sure what enhancements are coming up next, but we’re already happy with the template messages available like “Ok coming over now” that allows us to pretend like we’re already on the way down when we’re actually still packing our bags.

Other than that, Grab is also making available a $5 discount code “GRAB5” for all users in celebration of their fifth birthday. Don’t say never share.
