If this year’s inaugural edition is anything to go by, you’ll want to be the first to hear about this upcoming screening. Organized by the same great folk behind Films at the Fort, the Peroni Sunset Cinema has just announced that they’ll be back in action at the same place next year.
The film program, dates and ticketing information are still in the works, but a little bird told us that they’ll be announcing more details early next year (we’re guessing it’ll probably be at the peak of summer in May).
The first edition of this Singapore’s first silent cinema event took place from May 5-14 this year in the open area just outside of Tanjong Beach Club (TBC). Each day begun at 5pm and revelers could enjoy the sunset as beats from DJs like Stephen Day and instrumentalists like Kaye belt out tunes while you guzzle down tipples and food provided by Peroni and TBC. The film line-up included blockbusters like Arrival, Jackie, Lion and many more.
When it comes to film festivals, we’ve been spoilt for choice; with each one consistently growing bigger than the last. The outdoor film scene too, has improved significantly in the past couple of years. Sure, we don’t have drive-in cinemas anymore—the last permanent fixture was in the western heartlands of Singapore back in the early ’70s to mid ’80s—but the variety of outdoor film events have definitely increased since last year.
There’s the Films at the Fort, the small-scale Singapore Open Air Cinema Club at The Hive, Movie Mob‘s pop-up movie screenings at seemingly random places, People Association’s Be My Kaki Movie Bus pop-ups at neighborhood parks, town centers, common public spaces and private estates and the recently launched free and weekly Popcorn Movie Nights at Palawan Green in Sentosa.
