If you’re looking to be the next Serena Williams or Andy Murray, here are six public tennis courts in Singapore to swing it like you mean it… at least until you make it.
Jurong Country Club
Home to several other facilities, its Sports and Recreation complex has eight tennis courts complete with bright lighting and texturized surface for the Club’s regular tournaments. Members only have to pay a court fee of $3 per hour, while guests have an additional charge of $3 per person. They also offer hourly coaching sessions with professional coaches, priced at $85 for members and $100 for non-members. 9 Science Centre Rd., 6708 6285, www.jcc.org.sg/sr/tennis.html Open daily 7am-10pm.
Kallang Tennis Center
With 14 world-class courts and a seating capacity of more than 1,000, it’s little wonder competitions are often held here. Book your spot via ActiveSG at an hourly rate of $3.50 (non-peak) and $9.50 on weekends, public holidays and 6-10pm on weekdays. Various teaching schools, including Tennis Lessons Singapore, offer classes on site, starting at $40 per student for a group of two, over an hour. 52 Stadium Rd., 6348 1291, www.myactivesg.com. Open daily 7am-10pm.
The buzzing Kampong Glam hood isn’t all eat and no play. There’s a court available for booking at the community club and PAssion card members get special booking rates on tennis courts at $6.50 per hour during non-peak hours and $8.50 on weekends, public holidays and after 6:30pm on weekdays. Non-PAssion card members pay $7 (non-peak) and $9 (peak). 385 Beach Rd, 6295-0741, www.one.pa.gov.sg. Open daily 10.45am–9.45pm.
It’s game on rain or shine in this sprawling indoor tennis court, which has an asphalt surface and a super high ceiling. Hotel guests can reserve the court for $70 upwards an hour while the public can book them for $100 upwards. For that cool price you’re paying, tennis racquets, balls, towels, water and a whole lot of Wimbledon feel comes included. 29 Tanglin Rd., 6506-6896, www.stregissingapore.com/tenniscourt. Open daily 8am-10pm.
SAFRA Mount Faber
Though courts here are only available to members at $3.20 (non-peak) per hour, the tennis lessons are open to all. Four 1.5-hour classes for adults are $160.50 for members and $192.60 for guests. 2 Telok Blangah Way, 6278-6011, www.safra.sg. Open daily 7am–1am.
What makes the games here great: the mall’s courts are on the roof, which provides a killer view of the Marina Bay skyline. Private tennis coaching starts from $110 for an hour-long class, and there’s the Pump Tennis class that incorporates high intensity workouts to refine tennis fundamentals. 6 Raffles Blvd., 6336-2701, www.mbpsports.com. Open daily 8am–9pm.
