Movies have always been a good form of escapism. So if you’re looking to let loose and get lost in some awesome flicks come Friday night, check out the following films now showing in (or coming to) theatres. Just remember to keep to the current guidelines of two per group and keep your masks on at all times.
Bye Bye Morons
A Projector exclusive, Bye Bye Morons follows a 43-year-old hairdresser who embarks on a quest to find a child she was forced to abandon earlier in life when she realises that she’s seriously ill. Along the way, she is joined by a burned-out IT security specialist as well as a blind archivist and what ensues is complete, frantic drama. Film critics have had polarising opinions on this one, so watch it and judge it for yourself. Opens Aug 18
Disney’s Jungle Cruise
Based on the Disney theme park attraction of the same name, Jungle Cruise will star Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt as a riverboat captain and an explorer on an important research mission respectively. Drawing inspiration from ‘90s archaeological movies like The Mummy and Indiana Jones, the new adventure flick will no doubt show you what ‘a trip of a lifetime’ truly means. Now open in theatres
The Medium
Those with the stomach for horror movies should catch The Medium, which spotlights a shaman and her niece who shows symptoms of what is believed to be an inheritance of shamanism. Brace yourself though, as the erratic behaviour seen on screen is definitely not for the faint-of-heart. Opens Aug 12
The Suicide Squad
Now this is the blockbuster we’ve all been waiting for. Unabashedly insane and unpredictable, the sequel to the 2016 DC flick is exactly what you’d expect it to be. Just catch the return of fan favourite Harley Quinn alongside a new crew of outlandish characters in true Suicide Squad fashion. Opens Aug 5
