Two Singaporean animated short films are going to European festivals in June

When moviegoers head to the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in France and Animafest Zagreb in Croatia later this year, they can look forward to seeing two Singaporean short films. Channel NewsAsia reports that The Great Escape by Tan Wei Keong and The Tiger Of 142B by twin brothers Harry and Henry Zhuang will feature at the festivals.

Both shorts were products of UTTER 2015: Head Trip, a Singapore Writers Festival initiative which saw the works of Singaporean writers brought to life by award-winning animators.

The Great Escape, a six-minute hand-drawn adaptation of a poem by Alfian Sa’at, will screen in competition at the Animation Off-Limits category of the Annecy event (Jun 13-18). It tells the story of a relationship between two men and an olive tree.

The Tiger of 142B, an 11-minute adaptation of a short story by Dave Chua, made the shortlist for the Grand Competition of the Zagreb festival (Jun 6-11). It depicts a failing relationship further complicated by the presence of a roaming tiger.
