What to watch this weekend: Existential cyberpunk vs. biblical epic

The Zero Theorem

Terry Gilliam’s latest, the third of his “Orwellian” films, is a cyberpunk number with Christoph Waltz as a hacker trying to compute the meaning of life and Melanie Thierry as as a distracting femme fatale.

In Secret

This historical heavy, based on Émile Zola’s Thérèse Raquin, follows the sexual awakening of the once-repressed Thérèse (Elizabeth Olsen). Worth catching, obviously, since the superior Olsen sister and the fabulous Jessica Lange are both in it.

Noah

Darren Aronofsky’s Easter-friendly biblical epic stars Russell Crowe as Noah, plus other big names like Jennifer Connelly, Anthony Hopkins and Emma Watson.

The Best Offer

This Italian indie drama stars Geoffrey Rush as an auctioneer who falls from grace (somewhat) thanks to a scam and feelings for his young heiress client.

Haunt

First-time director Mac Carter helms this B-movie-style romp through—surprise, surprise—a haunted house.
