Sake pairing dinners, new releases and more at the third Sake Matsuri

Hard to imagine it’s been a year since the inaugural Sake Matsuri, a festival by bottle shop Temple Cellars dedicated to craft sake and that has seen overwhelming crowds since day one (there sure are plenty of alcoholics sake drinkers out there).

Following a special Spring edition held earlier this year in March, Sep 28 will see the third coming of the festival, this time, going bigger than ever with not-your-average sake pairing dinners being held all across Singapore, in conjunction with the main event still taking place at UE Square’s outdoor Skylight Atrium.

The dinners are taking place at restaurants like Morsels, Thevar and Si Chuan Dou Hua, where sake sommeliers will take guests through a pairing that doesn’t involve Japanese food, showing us all how versatile sake really is. These dinners happen at various dates (from Sep 26-Oct 1), and are charged separately from the festival, starting from $128 for a five-course pairing.

At the festival grounds itself, once again get to taste (and buy at discount) over 200 labels of sake, including seasonal releases available for the first time in Singapore, as well as getting better acquainted with your sakes at various masterclasses ($30-50). We’re especially interested in the one about Namazake, or unpasteurized sake, that is gaining greater popularity here.

Sake Matsuri Singapore 2019 happens Sep 28, 2pm-8pm at Skylight Atrium, UE Square. Tickets cost $45 (early bird $35) and is inclusive of free-flow tastings and a sake glass.
