Sony has confirmed that the PlayStation VR headset will be retailing here from Oct 13 at $599 while the VR and PlayStation Camera bundle will be going for S$649. That’s a significant drop compared to the Oculus Rift, which is priced at about $970, as well as the HTC Vive, which sells for about $1350.
We’re also going to be at the head of the pack with Singapore’s release being simultaneous with Japan, Europe and North America, and you’ll be able to pre-order the sets from tomorrow (Jul 30) at selected Sony Centers and PlayStation authorized dealers.
The headset boasts a 5.7-inch OLED display at 1920×1080 and refresh rates of 120Hz and 90Hz, with about a 100-degree field of vision and 360-degree tracking available via the 9 LED lights on the device.
The PlayStation VR will come with the Playroom VR app bundled in, and more than 60 titles have been confirmed to launch in Asia with 230 developers working on content for the device. This includes games from regional developers like Mortal Blitz VR (Skonec Entertainment) from Korea, Stifled (Gattai Games) from Singapore, and O! My Genesis (Xpec Entertainment Inc) from Taiwan, along with bigger franchises like Final Fantasy XV and Batman: Arkham VR.
We know the wait’s going to be agonizing but in the meantime, you can check out how the VR stacks up against the Oculus Rift and also start planning your game roster till October rolls around.
