Cafe hop at Cafe Culture before bopping to beats at parties

We’re inching closer to September by the minute, which means F1 season, among many other happenings. But before all that, indulge in some unique dining experiences, plenty of shows and musical events, as well as your usual dose of parties.

MUSIC
Award-winning Hong Kong pianist Ka Jeng Wong is set to perform iconic tunes from the 19th and 20th century in an oddly existential piano recital, God or No God?. Held at Esplanade’s Recital Studio, allow Wong to take you on a musical journey that seeks the answer to the show’s title. Aug 26

DRAG
One of the biggest names in the Drag world is winner of Rupaul’s Drag Race All Stars Season 2, Alaska Thunderf*ck, who will be bringing a performance of a lifetime to Singapore this August. The comedy queen herself will be taking on her chart-topping hits coupled with some witty banter at Alaska - Live in Singapore (R18). Aug 27

FOOD/DRINK
Check out OFC’s Dearborn X Open Farm Community which features Christopher Kong, formerly of 11 Madison and Nomad in New York and current Chef-Owner of Dearborn Singapore. A 5-course dinner with a menu utilising greens, grains, fish and fruits, this dining experience also highlights food wastage and the importance of sustainability. Aug 28

MUSIC
Let the Andrew Lim Trio comprising musicians Andrew Lim, Ben Paterson and Aaron James Lee showcase their love for soulful blues and old school swing at this one-night only concert in Singapore. Aug 28

FILM
In conjunction with their exhibition Takashi Murakami: From Superflat to Bubblewrap, STPI Creative Gallery and Workshop will be hosting the movie screening of Ghost in the Shell (1995), not the disappointing Scarlett Johansson flick. A movie that took the world by storm in the mid-90s for its anime and cinematic expression, watch this sci-fi spectacle challenge the boundaries of mainstream animation with a great storyline. ART
Show yourself some love at Rejuvenate! in August, which has two programmes suitable for all. Join martial arts practitioner Andy Yeo for a workshop that teaches the traditional art of Qi Gong or allow artist Yoko Choi to help you appreciate art as a form of therapy. Aug 29

MUSIC
All musicians, jammers and music fans alike should head to Open Jam Sessions at Bones 'n Barrels, Sentosa come Thursday night. Hosted by established musician Eddy Fleitas del Sol, hang back and enjoy the music or partake in the fun if you’re so inclined. Aug 29

PERFORMANCE
Catch Fuerza Bruta’s second time in Singapore during the Singapore Night Festival 2019. Expect to be amazed by their gravity-defying feats and aerial acts as they perform three ticketed shows beginning Thursday evening. Opens Aug 29

MUSIC
Enjoy some musical entertainment courtesy of Pugs in Pockets while you roam the Bras Basah. Bugis district at the Singapore Night Festival 2019. Performing for just two nights, the band of young musicians will play a combination of funk, pop and jazz right at the West Plaza Steps of SOTA. Aug 29-30

FOOD/DRINK
Continue to eat and drink well while cafe hopping at Sands Expo and Convention Centre, at the very first Cafe Culture being held over the last weekend of August. Highlights include international cafes and concepts such as Copenhagen’s The Coffee Collective, Melbourne’s Lune Croissanterie and Switch Coffee from Tokyo. Aug 29-Sep 1

THEATRE
Eat Duck, a new play by playwright Zenda Tan and director Claire Wong, is about an extended family who holds a seven-day Taoist wake for their grandma. Navigating unfamiliar traditions, rites and rituals, Eat Duck examines the struggles Singaporeans face during very difficult times. Aug 29-Sep 8

MUSIC
Hailing from the UK, Hunstanton band Deaf Havana will be making their way to Singapore for the very first time, to perform all their hits for just one night. Presented by Disrupt.Co, Deaf Havana Live in Singapore 2019 is part of the band’s Asia Tour 2019. Aug 30

FILM
Returning for another Backyard Movie Night is Wheeler's Estate with About Time. Get cosy on their lawn and catch the romantic-comedy drama starring Rachel McAdams, among the great outdoors. Aug 30

MUSIC
Following the release of his two singles, Singaporean singer-songwriter thecolorfractal is launching his debut EP in metanoia this Friday. In celebration of the release the musician will be joined by an all-star band to perform at the Esplanade Outdoor Theatre as part of Red Dot August. Aug 30

PARTY
Major DJ and dance music producer Alesso will be hitting up Singapore’s largest nightclub on Friday night with his progressive house jams and worldwide hits. Online tickets have since been sold out, so head to Marquee early if you want to be granted entry to party alongside the Swedish DJ. Aug 30
