A very musical week awaits

This week is set to be a good one for music enthusiasts and gig-goers. The Japanese House is playing a sold-out concert on Monday, The Maine will grace The Pavilion’s stage come Thursday night, and Music Matters Live will return for its annual festival at Clarke Quay from Friday onwards. But if you want to mix things up a little with a show or two, we’ve got your back too.

COMEDY
Need some laughter to chase away ‘em Monday blues? Head to comedy club The Merry Lion for a free open-mic night, and catch some stand-up. Or if you’re so inclined, go ahead and take to the stage yourself; simply drop the club a Facebook message and they’ll be in touch. Sep 9

MUSIC
The Japanese House, aka Amber Bain, will be in Singapore for an already sold-out show, bringing her brand of experimental and impressive sounds. She’s even played in arenas across the UK with labelmates The 1975, who will also be in Singapore this month. Sep 9

MARKET
For one entire week, Sift & Pick Pop-Up will return to Orchard Gateway, bringing a unique curation of designer purses and accessories from independent labels like Marhen.J, Alice Martha and Grace Gift. There’ll be over 200 fashion and accessory picks, and a bespoke embossed leather keyring for the first 300 shoppers. Sep 9-15

THEATRE
Making its return to Singapore is London-based theatre company Shakespeare’s Globe, with a theatre experience unlike any other. On opening night, find an Audience Choice show, where all you have to do is show up and cheer for the play you’ll like to watch. Options include Twelfth Night, The Comedy of Errors and Pericles. FILM
Enjoy a movie coupled with a good cause this Wednesday night. Hard Rock Cafe Singapore will be screening hit movie Bohemian Rhapsody at their Cuscaden Road branch, and all proceeds will go to Action For AIDS Singapore. Sep 11

MUSIC
For an epic live show, check out Jacob Collier (Live), presented by Vamp Productions along with the Singapore International Jazz Festival and Collective Minds. The English singer and producer will travel to Singapore to take the stage at The Capitol Kempinski Hotel Singapore; tickets start from $88. Sep 10

EXHIBITION
Bringing together contemporary artists is The Photography & Dining with Leica CL exhibition this Wednesday. The showcase presents a discourse on artistic roles and identities in Singapore, and comes with a talk session with two of the six exhibitors, Norah Lea and Yangermeister, who’ll provide insight about their works of art. Sep 11

MUSIC
Catch Spain’s grinding hardcore band, Teething, live in Singapore at the Lithe House on Madras Street. Don’t expect any chill from this, as things will definitely get crazy. Sep 11

PARTY
Get ready to party as a brand-new Wednesday night party is here to bring you some much-needed mid-week fun. Join Wan for their Playground Wednesday, and bring all your girlfriends as there’ll be complimentary entry and drinks for all ladies. Sep 11

Widely-adored American rock band The Maine tours the globe with their seventh album You Are Okay under their belt, as they make a pit-stop in Singapore this September. Catch them at Far East Square’s The Pavilion as they make their return to our sunny shores. Sep 12

Free community-based event Art Night Singapore will be hosting another night of fun, where everyone come together to practice various forms of art, from water colour painting to guitar playing. EXHIBITION 
You might not have asked to see a massive pile of slime, but you can, at the 19th edition of the Singapore Science Festival, which will feature Singapore’s largest slime installation. It’ll be a giant three-metre long structure, so get to Fusionopolis to witness this wild, slimy record-breaking event. Sep 13

FESTIVAL
Longstanding music festival Music Matters Live will return for its annual run this September, with six nights of international musical highlights. 50 artists are set to take on 10 venues in Clarke Quay, such as Vancouver soul reggae musician Buckman Coe and Israeli electro-pop producer-singer songwriter Totemo. Sep 13-18
