Festivals dedicated to rum, rose wine and board games, plus a party with A$AP Ferg

This weekend, celebrate your love for rum at Rum Bellion 2019, held along block party lane Keong Saik Road, and rose wines at Rose Revolution, to be found at the recently reopened The Alkaff Mansion. Also keep things wholesome by commemorating the birthday of one of our nation’s oldest museums, or spar with your friends over games at the Asian Board Games Festival 2019. And don’t forget to channel your inner rap god at Marquee too, as American rapper A$AP Ferg will be dishing out some of his greatest hits for one special evening.

Hosted by Asian modern board games publisher Origame, the Asian Board Games Festival 2019 is a free event for all board game lovers to gather and play great games together. Check out Taiwanese board games by Taiwan Boardgame Design, as well as Japanese ones like In Front of the Elevators and Let’s Build a Bus Route. Oct 11

Known for their remixes of sounds by artists like Disclosure and The Killers, LA-based vivacious duo Lost Kings will be coming down to famed MBS nightclub Marquee on Friday night. A concert organised in support of the Singapore Bicentennial, Heirlooms - Reimagining the Sounds of our Chinese Forefathers will be held at the Esplanade, with a premiere of a repertoire of eight commissioned works featuring instruments found only in folk ensembles. The Teng Ensemble seeks to celebrate our unsung musical pioneers and reimagine the sounds of our Chinese forefathers. Oct 11

This Friday, welcome Dolce Vito of Parisian musical group La Mamie to The Cuts for the very first time. A DJ of futuristic tunes, Vito mixes soulful house with deep techno in order to deliver hypnotic, groove-worthy sounds to the crowd. DESIGN
A one-day design extravaganza, Saturday Indesign will transform one of Singapore’s central design precincts into an entire design experience. 14 selected furniture showrooms at Tan Boon Liat Building will be activated, while the space along Mohamed Sultan Road will also exhibit a selection of design labels for all to check out. PHOTOGRAPHY
Get into the Singapore spirit and commemorate our national heritage through the Canon PhotoMarathon at Our Tampines Hub, where photographers can display their skills and creativity, and stand to win attractive prizes. Oct 12

LITERATURE
The subject of mental health issues can be tough to talk about, and books are a less intrusive medium for us to learn about managing our mental wellbeing. To help those in need, the Mental Health Book Fair will be organised to feature mental health-related titles as well as a discussion with author of Loss Adjustment, Linda Collins. Oct 12

Explore the purpose of the archive, and how it intersects with the making, historiography and writing of art at Annotations: Art + Archive in Southeast Asia. Organised by the National Gallery Singapore in conjunction with the opening of its new Rotunda Library & Archive, get educated on the various aspects of art this weekend. Oct 12

Trust Marquee to bring some of the biggest names in hip-hop music to our shores for spectacular performances. Following the appearance of his fellow A$AP Mob mate earlier this year, rapper A$AP Ferg will be at MBS to dish out hits like “Plain Jane” and “Work”. Oct 12

Singapore’s first rum festival will arrive at Keong Saik Road this month, in the form of a block party. Rum Bellion 2019 is initiated by Keong Saik joint Neon Pigeon, alongside neighbours Taki Taki, Limehouse and Bula Cafe & Bar, so expect these spaces to be taken over by rum brands with the likes of Diplomatico, Plantation, Sailor Jerry and more for a whole day of activities. Oct 13
