Singapore Garden Festival heads to the heartlands in April

Perk up, fans of flora. An offshoot of the annual Singapore Garden Festival returns, bringing with it the debut of an all-new Horticulture Show from Apr 27-May 5. The new segment seeks to provide a platform for locals to grow (pun intended) their love for greening, nurture an interest in horticulture, and simply soak in the beautiful displays.

What’s more, the SGF Horticulture Show will be infiltrating the heartlands, taking over Jurong Lake Gardens for nine days. Look forward to a plethora of competitive and non-competitive events alike—including a Horticultural Competition pitting plant enthusiasts and growers against each other to flex their gardening skills. There’s also a separate Vertical Greenery competition featuring creations of 36 sqm, and an Aquascape Display that will feature the winning entries of beautiful underwater garden landscapes.

For the rest of us black thumbs, there’re a lot of pleasant and passive admiring to be done. Flit between 100 creative terrariums created by students and the community, inside a space that’s basically a larger-than-life terrarium itself; gawk at scaled dioramas filled with miniature landscapes and props; or just peruse an exhibition of bonsai specimens in total zen. The annual marketplace of plants, gardening and horticultural products, and the necessary food and drink will be on-site to offer respite too.

It that still isn’t enough botany for you, keep your eyes peeled for the second SGF Orchid Show, which will return Dec 7-15 to the Singapore Botanic Gardens. Till then, you can find us in Jurong.
