Video teller machines have arrived for DBS/POSB customers

Need a new debit card and it’s the middle of the night on a weekend? Hit up one of these machines.

The future of banking is here, and it’s in the form of Video Teller Machines (VTM) that DBS has just rolled out across nine locations islandwide.

The nifty machines will operate round-the-clock, just like your regular ATMs, but will provide additional branch banking services to DBS and POSB customers.

The new services include instant dispensing of Internet banking security tokens, allowing customers to apply for debit cards and obtain them instantly, and changing of particulars—all of which previously required a trip down to the bank during office hours.

Each VTM is fitted with a soundproof booth that offers privacy, and customers can also choose to speak to bank tellers via live video streaming from 8:30am to midnight. To use the VTM, you’ll need to have your IC, passport or ATM card on you, along with your phone for more complex transactions that require an SMS-OTP.

They’re located at DBS SUTD and POSB branches in Rivervale Plaza, Bukit Batok West, Kampong Ubi, Tampines Hub, Yishun North, Toa Payoh North, Bedok North and Ang Mo Kio Central.

Here’s the list of round-the-clock services offered:

  • Instant replacement of debit cards
  • Instant application and provision of debit cards
  • Instant Internet banking token replacement
  • Card Services
  • Request for iBanking Secure Device
  • Update Particulars
  • Balance Enquiry
  • Bill Payment for cashline (with card)
  • Pay DBS or POSB credit cards bills
  • Additional cheque book requests
  • Telephone banking pin (replacement)
  • Delete GIRO arrangement
  • Change GIRO Payment Limit
  • Stop Payment of Cheque for CASA accounts
  • Request for Statements

While the VTMs certainly sound efficient and convenient, we wonder if they’ll end up having epic queues. You know, just like at a regular bank ¯_(ツ)_/¯
