4 reasons why Little India is super hot right now

Sadly, Little India’s been in the news for all the wrong reasons: liquor bans and festival drama. But we think it’s actually having a bit of a renaissance, with co-working spaces and tons of cool bars popping up. Here’s what to do on your next trip there.

It’s become a bit of a creative hub

For new entrepreneurs and would-be start-ups, Workhouse is an intriguing new option. The three-story shophouse space on Veerasamy Road is kitted out with two meeting rooms, a lounge area and even shower facilities. Plus, they’re having an opening party on Mar 21 with talks, workshops and a photobooth. But if you require a watering hole underneath your place of work, head to The Refinery that’s set up by The General Co., complete with a yakitori restaurant and cocktail bar.

The Growell Pop-Up

It’s getting visits from locavores, pop-ups and San Pellegrino-listed chefs

The folks behing Edible Gardens have taken over Broadcast HQ for a pop-up all about urban farming. The Growell Pop-Up has a series of workshops, dinners by the likes of Cajun Kings and Burnt Ends, as well as a retail space and cafe. There’s no reason to not start that herb garden now. Oh! And on Mar 29, there is a burger pop-up brought to you by Cajun Kings and Burnt Ends, which was recently added to the San Pellegrino Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants list.

Sushi Jin

There’s craft beer and omakase

Forget the cutesy cafes with kitschy names. Head to places like craft brewery The 1925 Microbrewery & Restaurant with in-house brews with locally-inspired flavors on Jalan Besar and Druggists, a craft beer bar with 23 rotating taps of craft beers from breweries like Mikkeller and To Ol. There’s also Sushi Jin, which has some of the cheapest omakase sets in town and super addictive rice bowls with wagyu beef. Oh and don’t forget The Refinery’s yakitori restaurant, too.

The 1925 Microbrewery

There’s just so much else to do there

First off, there’s the book swapping and beer drinking session of Books & Beer at 1925, then there’s Growell Pop-Up’s Chardonnay BYOB party where you can bring your poison of choice and listen to groovy tunes. There are also talks by The Zeitgeist Movement advocating sustainability in Singapore, as well as an interestingly named Food Trash Cooking Competition where four teams cook up artistic new dishes.
