Is this the future of the hawker center?

The team responsible for Clarke Quay’s sci-fi-style architecture are at it again. This time, they’re looking to change the way we think about and look at hawker centers with their new project, named Solar Orchid (“Solar” because it’s designed to harness solar power, “Orchid” due to the arrangement of the petal-shaped pods). The hi-tech floating market, which the Spark team hopes to have up and running in time for next year’s national day (the big SG50), will probably be pretty divisive as Singapore tends to be touchy about changing our beloved hawker culture. Look through the slideshow and decide if you love it or hate it.
