From Sep 1, you’ll be able to charge your mobile device for free on buses running from the North and West of Singapore.
SMRT is rolling out 10 double-decker buses equipped with USB charging ports, which operate from Bukit Batok, Choa Chu Kang and Woodlands. If you happen to commute on bus services 61, 67, 963, 969 or 985, you’ll be one of the first to get to try out the new feature.
The 41 USB charging ports in each bus are located near the inner seats, which gives you more incentive for you to scoot over the next time you ride the bus. Ports will also be available at the wheelchair bay on wheelchair accessible buses. East-siders might have to wait a little longer to use the new feature in their hood though, with the Land Transport Authority (LTA) planning to add 137 new buses with this feature on other routes from October onwards.
These USB ports are just the beginning in LTA’s grand plan for public buses, and other interior features you could be seeing real soon include information display panels, more comfortable seats, intelligent lighting and foldable seats.
