The Halloween fun begins

The spookiest of seasons has arrived, bringing us the first wave of Halloween events. Just a couple to tie you over for now, before the three-day weekend comes around with plenty more.

FESTIVAL
Sip on curated bespoke cocktails and wines while catching performances by some of our favourite local artists at Raffles Hotel Singapore’s reopening festival. Eats by Tiffin Room, La Dame de Pic and even the newly-opened Burger & Lobster will be available. Oct 18

PARTY
Get excited for Oktoberfest Asia 2019, where festival-goers will get to enjoy a free flow of beers from Erdinger WeiBbrau and Paulaner Brauhaus. If an authentic German experience is what you crave, purchase a VIP pass, as VIPs will be entitled to a special Oktoberfest buffet too. Plus, entertainment will be provided by a legit Munchen band, Rock Oompahs, whose members will don traditional Lederhosens and play classic pop dance tunes, and traditional German Oktoberfest music. Oct 18

PARTY
Squeeze into your favourite dancing pants and get ready to boogie to classic ‘80s tunes at Cherry Discotheque on Friday. The whole club will also be turned into a local ‘80s scene for major vibes. Oct 18

Experience banging tunes once again at Soundclash, which continues at the much-lauded MBS nightclub Marquee. Headlining the night is the resident DJs, Fvder and Zippy, alongside a local act, The Infamous. Oct 18

EXERCISE
Don’t feel like partying on a Friday night? Or feel like hitting a workout class before you do? Head to The Yoga School for Unwind, a special two-hour yoga session conducted by their founder Dawn Chan, which will help you rest and restore your body. Oct 18

PARTY
Bring your Z-game and gather your buds for an emo night of sorts, happening at Phuture this Friday. Headbang to your favourite punk, electro, indietronica and of course, indie rock tunes, as it’ll definitely be a rock-and-roll fest. Oct 18

Once again hitting up Zouk’s Mainroom is Ghetto and DJ Daniel for 100% Bulletproof, which as you already know will present a night of big room, hardstyle, hip-hop and more. Oct 18

WORKSHOP
Stay woke at Biennials as Public Space, where Taiwanese arts professor Hongjohn Lin will discuss the planning of arts projects, working around the instrumentalisation of art and how the public can engage in various situations when building social relations. Oct 18

DRINK
For just a couple of days, the CBD's happiest happy hour crown will be taken by the Jim Beam Highball Pop-up Bar, located at the Tanjong Pagar Centre Urban Park. Go on a weekend bender at 195 Pearl’s Hill Terrace, where a 3-day ritual encompassing art, music, food and drinks will be happening to commence the launch of Kult Yard, a cool new bar and creative space that was formerly a police barrack. Oct 18-20

PLAY 
Have some outdoorsy fun when you enter the Supertree Grove at Gardens by the Bay. An illuminated playground awaits, with neon installations, roving LED stilt walkers and even three giant neon sculptures. And don't forget to pop by The Bears' Mouth for just two days this weekend to catch some beautiful dance performances. Oct 18-27

PARTY
The Alkaff Mansion will also open their newly-renovated doors for a night of Oktoberfest festivities. There’ll be German gourmet foods, Erdinger German beers, beermaids, DJs, a band and of course, bratwursts for all. Oct 19

MARKET
Taking place at The Seafood Market Place by Song Fish is a farmer’s market this weekend, with a new grocery shopping experience. Live cooking demos and free samples will be offered, as well as plenty of fresh produce. Oct 19

DRINK
Nowhere else will you find a more passionate annual gathering of local beer lovers than at iBrew Challenge, an annual competition and festival of sorts, where homebrewers showcase their beers to the public, as well as to a panel of esteemed judges in hopes of winning the coveted Best of Show accolade. Oct 19

MARKET
Happening at the UE Square Skylight Atrium is The Alternative Market (or Alt Mkt) 2019, making a glorious return after a year’s hiatus since its debut in 2017. Organised by Temple Cellars, the same folks behind Sake Matsuri, look forward to a similar concept where you'll get free-flowing tastings throughout the entire duration of the event for a flat price. PARTY
Another rooftop carpark party is happening at Golden Mile, as Lion City Bass is returning to the venue to dish out dubstep, hip-hop bass and disco. Oct 19

PLAY
Hosting a Halloween Trail Walk is the SPC Riding Academy, where you can look forward to a thrilling jungle walkthrough and mysterious treasure hunt. Intricate details of the event have been withheld to prevent spoilers, so you'll just have to head down to find out for yourself. Oct 19

PARTY
Get ready for a boisterous, creepy affair plus a blast to the past at HopHeads this Saturday, as their 90s Boom Boom Party will also come with a tinge of ‘00s fun. Be sure to dress up and show up with your crew, ‘cause you just might walk away with a treat if you win their Halloween costume contest. Oct 19

PARTY
Get your freak on and dress up for the Halloween party edition of Wavy at Canvas, where you can become your favourite rappers and put forth your various hip-hop personas. Each ticket comes with a free drink. Oct 19

FILM/FESTIVAL
Get to know Argentina through its cinema at the Argentine Film Festival, returning for its second edition this year. Experience the South American country and its unique cultural elements at the festival which will spotlight four feel-good movies about quirky relationships, romance and adventures. Through Oct 19

PLAY
Explore the haunted trails of Sembawang and uncover its deepest, darkest secrets at Terroween: The Final Call. Plenty of Halloween-themed games and activities lie ahead, like horror games, tarot card readings and more. Oct 19-20

SHOW
Not-for-profit arts society The Arts Place will be revising Gaetano Donizetti’s Italian comic masterpiece Don Pasquale into a Singlish opera for their debut opera production. Oddly interesting, catch this show for just two evenings in October. Oct 19-20

EXHIBITION 
BBT lovers must head to The Bubble Tea Factory, a two-month experiential pop-up at *Scape, to eat, drink and play with bubble tea. Find over 10 installations that will feature boba, and get Insta-worthy shots all across the 7000 sq ft space. Oct 19-Dec 18

SHOW 
As part of Got To Move 2019, an initative by the National Arts Council, the Diverse Abilities Dance Collective proves that dance is for everyone and anyone, by welcoming everyone from children with special needs to elderly nursing home residents to their dance sessions. Through these sessions, attendees will learn how to get comfortable with expressing themselves through dance, while also gaining a better understanding of each other.
